Tuscany’s riches—peerless art and architecture, world famous wines and a countryside with one extraordinary view after the next—overshadow the fact it has amazing seaside settings, too, among them the seven islands that make up the Tuscan Archipelago in the Tyrrenhian and Ligurian Seas. A boater’s paradise offering clear waters, often untouched natural settings, secluded beaches and the chance to sail the open seas while not being far from land, these islands (some have restricted access) can also be reached by ferry from towns along Tuscany’s coast. (There are also flights to Elba, the best known of the islands). Here’s what to see and where to go.
