Siena is one of Tuscany’s top hill towns and with about 4 miles of medieval walls enclosing the historic center, it’s one of the largest. Siena is best known for its large fan-shaped main square, Piazza del Campo, and the summer palio horse race that’s run in the square. Many of the monuments date from the late 13th to 14th centuries when it was one of Europe’s wealthiest cities.
