PISA, A SLICE OF ITALY by Mickey Welsh

The history of the tower of Pisa proves that even in the middle ages there were bad contractors; cutting corners to keep the price down and getting in trouble because of it.  What makes it special is that the people who ordered the build accepted the sloppy work. Local clergy and their rich benefactors felt that a big marble banana was an appropriate bell tower to the Pisa Cathedral. Modern times have since proven them to be visionaries of future travel
